My Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I will be running my first ever marathon, the London Marathon, in April 2024 to raise funds for the British Skin Foundation. The marathon will be a huge challenge for me. Although I run, this will be my longest by far. I am running this marathon because I am passionate about improving outcomes for people with skin diseases.

I work as a dermatologist at Guy’s and a professor at London School of Hygiene. Through my clinical job and my academic research, I am deeply aware of the effects of skin diseases on individuals, their families, and populations.

Most of us will have a skin disease at some point in our lives, with recent studies showing that skin diseases are the most common reason for attending a primary care doctor with a new health condition. Skin diseases, particularly when they are severe, can affect all aspects of peoples’ lives. Many of these diseases are not curable, and despite major advances in treatments, there is still a lot of work to be done to improve outcomes for people with skin disease.

Despite their burden, skin diseases remain neglected in terms of research funding. The British Skin Foundation is the only national charity that supports and funds research into all skin conditions. For this reason, I would be really grateful for any support you can give the British Skin Foundation.

Many thanks,

Sinéad
